Life & Career
With a great-grandfather who was a physician, a grandfather who is a dentist, a father who is a physician, two uncles who are dentists, as well as five nurses and five orthopedic surgeons in the family, Daniel Klauer, DDS always felt destined to care for patients in some way.
While uncertain of what path in healthcare to take halfway through undergrad, Dr. Klauer’s future became clearer when visiting the family dentist, Dr. Terrance Mahoney, for a routine cleaning. It was during that visit that he was invited to shadow the doctor and Dr. Klauer’s passion for dentistry began.
After graduating from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Science degree, Dr. Klauer completed four years of training at The Ohio State University, earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS). Upon graduation, Dr. Klauer returned to practice with his family dentist, Dr. Mahoney, who had been the catalyst for his passion for dentistry. Dr. Klauer would be mentored for nearly seven years by Dr. Mahoney before embarking on his journey to transform the lives of patients through treating craniofacial pain, TMD, and adult/pediatric sleep-disordered breathing.
Upon realizing he could help patients overcome chronic pain, sleepless nights, and other medical problems – in some cases immediately – Dr. Klauer dedicated his practice to providing solutions that addressed the root causes of these conditions, not just the symptoms.
Today, Dr. Klauer enjoys educating patients and giving them the tools to live healthier lives independent of medications and “band-aid” fixes. He regularly attends cutting-edge courses that further advance his clinical skills so as to continuously improve for the benefit of his patients.
Dr. Klauer has completed nearly 2 years of post-graduate training and over 1,800 hours of continuing education in Craniofacial Pain, TMD, and Sleep Medicine. He is on the Board of Directors for the American Board of Craniofacial Pain. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine, American Board of Craniofacial Pain and the American Board of Craniofacial Dental Sleep Medicine. He is Diplomate Eligible with the American Board of Orofacial Pain and he is the only doctor in a 100-mile radius of South Bend, IN that carries these three board credentials.
In his personal time, Dr. Klauer spends as much time as possible with his wife and four young children. He enjoys running, skiing and most any outdoor activity.
